Here are some specific examples of how you can use food to train birds:

• Target training. This is a great way to teach your bird basic commands like “step up” and “go to your cage.” To do target training, you’ll need a target stick or wand. Hold the target stick in front of your bird and when they touch it with their beak, give them a treat.
• Shaping. This is a more advanced technique that can be used to teach your bird more complex behaviours. To do shaping, you’ll start by rewarding your bird for small, incremental steps towards the desired behaviour. For example, if you want to teach your bird to wave, you would start by rewarding them for raising their wing slightly.
